# URL Shortening Configuration

## Overview

The URL Shortening and Tracking feature allows users to shorten a URL, thereby reducing the number of characters in the link and hiding parameters that may deter recipients from clicking on it. Clicks on all short links created using Conversive are tracked, and information such as the total click count is displayed.

As shown in the screenshot below, once the URL is entered and all other details are added, clicking the **Add** button generates a new shortened URL.

## How can I configure a shortened URL?

Portal administrators can configure settings in the URL Shortening feature using the **URL Shortening** tab.

Click on **URL Shortening** from the navigation bar. The following page will appear:

Follow the steps below to configure the URL Shortening settings:

1. Select a **Provider** from the drop-down list.
2. Select a **Domain** from the drop-down list.
3. The expiry period for shortened links must be set in the settings page for the respective features: **Interactive Messages**, **Bulk Messages**, and **Automated Messages**.

## How can I manage shortened links?

Here, the admin can view all information about shortened links created from the account, such as Long URL, Short URL, Domain, Slash URL, Status, URL Expiry, and Click Count.

> Expired short links become dead links.

Admins can check the duration or expiry of shortened links. Admins should ensure that short links are removed from templates before they expire.

### Deactivate short links

Follow the steps below to deactivate short links:

1. Click on the icon. The following options will appear.
2. Click on **Deactivate**. The following message will appear.
3. Click the **Expire** button to permanently expire the link.
4. Click **Cancel** if you do not want to expire the link.

## How can I delete a shortened URL?

The option to delete short links is provided purely for data cleanup. Any short link that is deleted will free up space, and all existing click-tracking records will be lost — the short link will become a dead link. Admins are advised to check with their teams and delete only those short links that are very old and have not been used in messages for some time.

Follow the steps below to delete short links:

1. Click on the three-dot icon. The following options will appear.
2. Click on **Delete**. The following message will appear.
3. Click the **Delete** button to permanently delete the link.
4. Click **Cancel** if you do not wish to delete the link.

#### 1. Can I get a custom domain for URL shortening?

Yes, you can configure a custom domain for URL shortening. Navigate to the **URL Shortening** tab in the settings and select a custom domain from the available options. If the desired domain is not listed, contact your account administrator to discuss custom domain options.

To enable URL Shortening and Tracking, this feature must be activated for your account. Contact your account administrator or support team to ensure URL Shortening is enabled. Once enabled, you can configure and manage the feature in the **URL Shortening** tab.
