SIP trunking: Using your Twilio numbers with Conversive

There are many reasons you may want to keep the phone numbers you already have. Switching to a new phone system should not have to mean getting a new number too. With Conversive, there are different ways to use your existing Twilio numbers.

This article explains your options and how to link your Twilio numbers to Conversive using SIP trunking.

Options for using Twilio numbers with Conversive

There are two main ways to use Twilio numbers with Conversive.

Option 1: Port your Twilio number to Conversive You can completely port your Twilio number to Conversive. This option:

  • Lets you use Conversive SMS
  • Lets you use third-party SMS integrations with Conversive

For information on number porting, please see the Conversive porting guide. Important: With this option, you will not be able to send or receive SMS messages through Twilio, since this is not supported on Conversive’s platform at this time.

Option 2: Link your Twilio number to Conversive (SIP trunking) You can also link your Twilio number to Conversive using SIP trunking. This is a great option if you want to keep your SMS services through Twilio while using the Conversive platform for phone calls.

Before linking your Twilio number to Conversive, keep the following in mind: Important:

  • Conversive cannot assist with your Twilio account, including invoicing, configuration, and compliance.
  • Conversive will not be able to help with issues that come up from using your Twilio phone number. For phone quality issues or support, you will need to contact Twilio.
  • Twilio numbers are charged differently than Conversive numbers. Your toll-free inbound calls will be charged on both Conversive and Twilio. Geographic (non-toll-free) inbound calls are free on Conversive but will be charged on Twilio.
  • You cannot use Conversive SMS or third-party SMS with Conversive directly using your Twilio numbers.
